New Leaks Develop: Battleship Texas Closed Again for Repairs

The Battleship Texas, which reopened Saturday following repair of a leak that developed June 9, has been closed once again.

Texas Parks and Wildlife officials were forced to close the historic battleship again following the onset of a new set of leaks.

A marine salvage company is currently working to fix this latest issue. The ship will reopen as soon as the work can be completed.

TPWD has been working for some time toward the permanent dry-berthing of the ship, but the state currently lacks funds for that project.

If a dry-berth solution that the department can afford cannot be found, Battleship Texas State Historical Site Superintendent Andy Smith said TPWD will shift its efforts to repairing the ship in place.
