The City of Fulshear is inviting all area residents to the annual Fulshear Freedom Fest on Saturday, June 30.
Hours for the celebration will be 6:30 p.m. – 10 p.m.
This year’s festivities will honor the Wounded Warrior Project and its efforts to provide for returning military veterans and their families.
The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a parade down FM 359 from the Bob Lutts Library to Fulshear’s downtown area and will conclude across from the Methodist Church.
Fulshear City Administrator C. J. Snipes will be announcing the parade as it passes.
The grand marshal for the parade will be US Army Brigadier General Katherine P. “Kate” Kasun of the 75th Training Division. Gen. Kasun will be riding in a military vehicle provided by BAE Systems.
The Lone Star Cowgirls Precision Horse Drill Team will be featured in the parade and will demonstrate their precision horsemanship immediately following the parade at 7:15 p.m.
The festival will begin after the parade with the presentation of the colors, invocation, pledge of allegiance, and the singing of the national anthem by local entertainer Mary Sarah.
At 8 p.m., Mayor Tommy Kuykendall will welcome the guests. John Boerstler of the Wounded Warrior Project will be on hand to receive proclamations from local dignitaries. Congressman Pete Olson will address the crowd as well.
During the festival, live music will be provided by Moses Rangle, Mary Sarah and their Little Big Band. Additionally, visitors will see the 2012 “Miss Firecracker” contest winners crowned.
Local churches will compete in the “Church Smackdown,” which will feature a pie eating contest. There will also be live Tae Kwon Do demonstrations and other family-oriented activities.
A number of food and vendor booths will be available as well. Jeff Gilbert, local State Farm agent, will sponsor a kid’s play area featuring such activities as bounce houses, face painters and balloon artists.
The festival will conclude with a fireworks display, which is scheduled to begin at 9:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public.
