Katy Sets City Council Election for May 12, Three Seats on Ballot

Meeting this week, the Katy City Council approved an ordinance formally calling this spring’s municipal election.

This year, three seats on city council will be on the ballot. One councilmember-at-large and on each from Ward A and Ward B will be elected.

The election was called for May 12, with polling locations at Katy City Hall and Katy Municipal Court.

Early voting will take place April 30 – May 8 at city hall.

The Ward A seat on the ballot is currently held by Councilmember Carol Adams, while the Ward B seat up for election is now held by Councilman Larry Gore. The at-large seat is currently held by Mayor Pro-Tem Hank Schmidt.

All three positions are for two-year terms.

The ordinance passed by city council this week appointed City Secretary Melissa Bunch to supervise the operation of the vote recording system as well as manage the central counting station. Resident Otis Sadler was appointed tabulation supervisor, while Donald P. Cox was named as presiding judge for the central counting station.

The presiding judge for the city hall polling place will be Phillip K. Sommerfeld. The alternate judge will be Marsha P. Sommerfeld.

The presiding judge for the municipal court polling place will be Peggy Ann Schulin. The alternate judge will be Deborah B. Ousley.
