A flash flood warning is now in effect for the Katy area until 1 p.m.
The storm system that began moving through the area earlier this morning has dropped up to 3 inches of rain, threatening to swell streams and waterways.
Katy, Cinco Ranch, Brookshire and Fulshear area all within the warning area.
As of 10:30, heavy rain continued to fall in Katy, frequently accompanied by thunder, gusty winds and pea-sized hail.
Isolated street flooding has been reported, but no street closures have been announced.
As the cold front moved into the area, temperatures have dropped 10 -12 degrees since the frontal passage.
Katy ISD reported all schools operating as normal, but district officials are closely watching the unfolding weather situation.
Scattered power outages have also been reported.
Earlier this morning, a tornado was reported on the ground near the Monaville area in Waller County; however, no damage has been reported.
The chance for additional rainfall remains at 100 percent for the rest of the day.
