Katy Water Rates Going Up Due to Increased Groundwater Reduction Fee

City of Katy water customers will be paying a little more in their next water bill due to an increase in the groundwater reduction fee charged by the West Harris Water Authority.

Council members approved the increase during Monday’s city council meeting.

In approving the change, officials stressed the city was not increasing its water rates, but merely passing along increased fees mandated by the water authority.

The West Harris Water Authority recently increased its fees from 84 cents per 1,000 gallons used to $1.00 per thousand gallons.

The groundwater reduction fee charged the city by the Bluebonnet Water District, which primarily serves the western portions of the city, did not change. That rate remained at 25 cents per 1,000 gallons.

The change will be reflected beginning in the January water bill.
