Parts Of Katy Area Under Tornado Watch, Flash Flood Warning Extended

As moisture and unstable air continues to track over the Katy area as a result of Tropical Storm Hermine, much of the Katy area has been placed under a tornado watch.

The National Weather Service placed Fort Bend County under the tornado watch until 1 p.m. today.

Additionally, the flash flood watch for Fort Bend County has been extended an additional 12 hours. The watch will now continue through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

Today’s forecast calls for periods of rain with a few thundershowers throughout the day. The chance for rain is 80 percent and 1 – 3 inches of rain could be possible across the area. Locally heavier rainfall is also possible in some areas.

The rain will continue through Wednesday.

The storms are the result of tropical moisture and unstable air being pushed across much of Texas as a result of Tropical Storm Hermine.

Hermine made landfall Sunday evening in extreme northern Mexico. Its remnants area expected to continue tracking north-northwest, brining rainfall to much of the state over the next few days.
