Volunteer Fort Bend Looking For Katy-Area Childbirth Educators

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

CHILDBIRTH EDUCATORS are needed for women going through unplanned pregnancies.  Women who have themselves undergone labor, particularly those with certification in childbirth education, can provide an ongoing series of childbirth classes to clients, covering topics such as the importance of placing trust in the pregnancy and labor processes and the options available in managing labor. Sessions are available weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings in the Katy area.

MAKE BLANKETS for infants and small children. An all-volunteer organization based in Katy is looking for persons willing to create blankets for seriously ill or traumatized youngsters, including pediatric cancer patients. The blankets may be sewn, woven, crocheted, knitted, or quilted, and size doesn’t matter. You can do the work at home and on your own schedule, and the amount you make is wholly up to you.

PROTECT WILDLIFE at a southwest Houston shelter that offers volunteers a variety of assignments. Depending on your preferences, you can help with shelter maintenance, answer an information hotline, assist with miscellaneous office functions, or work with trained staff to help care for animals housed at the facility. Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age and willing to commit to twelve hours of service per month. The shelter is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week.

RAISE A PUPPY for an organization that assigns guide dogs to visually impaired people. In-depth instruction will equip you to care for and train a puppy that will eventually become a companion to someone in need of the dog’s services.  This responsible assignment calls for mature volunteers willing to integrate the dog thoroughly into their family lives and daily routines.  The duration of commitment varies but is typically in the range of 12 to 18 months.

For more information on the following volunteer opportunities, please call Volunteer Fort Bend at 281-340-1919, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
