Katy Area Physician Disciplined By Texas Medical Board

A Katy area physician has been disciplined by the Texas Medical Board for failure to maintain adequate records and “failure to use proper diligence in his medical practice.”

Dr. William Alexander Currie, a gastroenterology specialist at Memorial Hermann’s Katy Rehabilitation Hospital, was ordered to complete a medical record-keeping course within one year and pay an administrative penalty of $2,000.

According to information provided by the medical board, Currie’s “failure to use proper diligence in his medical practice” resulted in a patient’s delayed referral to a colorectal surgeon. No other details were immediately made available.

Currie was among 187 doctors statewide recently disciplined by the board, according to information released on Thursday.

Attempts to reach Currie for comment were unsuccessful.

According to Memorial Hermann’s website, Currie practices at Memorial Hermann’s Katy, Memorial City and Southwest hospitals. His areas of practice include cancer prevention, colitis, colon cancer screening, diabetes, geriatrics, hepatitis/hepatitis C, hypertension, liver disorders, memory screening and ulcers.

Currie received his medical education at Universidad Autonoma De Nuevo Leon in 1979, completed his residency at the Marshall University School of Medicine in 1983 and his fellowship at the Huntington Beach Medical Center in 1985.
