Weston Lakes City Council To Consider Participation In Flu Shot Program, Emergency Notification System

The Weston Lakes City Council will meet tonight, with much of its agenda consisting of a report from Mayor Mary Rose Zdunkewicz.

The council will also consider taking part in a flu shot program, as well as a new emergency notification system.

The mayor will report on the city’s Aug. 21 budget hearing, the receipt of a certificate of appreciation from the U.S. Census Bureau and recent vandalism in the gated community.

Zdunkewicz will also provide an update on the city audit, the Weston Lakes Women’s Club Walk-A-Thon and revenue from CenterPoint Energy and AT&T.

The council will consider approving a proposal to co-sponsor a flu shot clinic in conjunction with the Weston Lakes Country Club.

Alderman Cliff Aldrich, who also serves as the city’s emergency management coordinator, will give an update on emergency preparedness. He will also present a proposal for the city to become a PIER center.

PIER is a state-of-the-art, Web-based emergency communication and notification system. PIER is an acronym for Public Information Emergency Response.

The PIER system is already in use by the Fort Bend County Office of Emergency Management.

Tonight’s city council meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Simonton City Hall.
