Volunteers Needed To Help Abused Children, Assist With Therapeutic Horseback-Riding Program

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

A FEW GOOD MEN are wanted as mentors at a Katy residential facility for children who have suffered from abuse or neglect.  If you have a good rapport with boys between the ages of 11 and 17, consider coming by once a week (on weekdays between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.) to interact with one of these kids in shared recreation and friendly conversation.  Volunteers should be at least 21 years of age.

FUN AND FRESH AIR are in store for volunteers participating in a therapeutic horseback-riding program for children and adults with disabilities.  Based at stables in Hockley, the program engages volunteers in accompanying these folks while they enjoy the unique thrill of a quiet horseback stroll in a protected environment. Register now to participate in the program’s fall sessions.

OVERSEE THE INVENTORY of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center’s greeting card display at one of a large number of participating grocery stores in the Katy area.  Monitoring the display on a weekly basis, you’ll report to center staff when supplies need to be replenished.  This easy but important volunteer assignment will help support funding of educational programs, college scholarships, and other resources that enrich the lives of pediatric cancer patients.

SORT AND ORGANIZE baby gift donations for a Katy-based agency that assists women experiencing unplanned pregnancies.  By assembling layettes and gift baskets for clients, you will help to provide a warm welcome to life’s newest arrivals.  Volunteer time commitments typically involve two to three hours a week and can be scheduled for morning, afternoon, or evening hours.

For more information on the following volunteer opportunities, please call Volunteer Fort Bend at 281-340-1919, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
