Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
ARTISTS AND ART ASSISTANTS are invited to share their time and talent with children ages 6-14 at a Refugee Resettlement Camp in Fort Bend. If you are gifted in art, dance, music, drama or storytelling, consider spending a little time once a week to help kids express emotions in a healthy manner and realize that learning can be fun. The application process includes a background check.
FUN AND FRESH AIR are in store for volunteers participating in a therapeutic horseback-riding program for children ages 5 and under with disabilities. Based at stables in Richmond, the program engages volunteers in accompanying these children while they enjoy the unique thrill of a quiet horseback stroll in a protected environment. Volunteers can get involved in weekday or Saturday sessions.
READ ALOUD to a small group of residents at an Alzheimer’s care facility in Katy. If you have a clear reading voice, plan on coming by to help stimulate residents’ minds and keep their spirits bright. Material read can include inspirational passages, Bible study selections, or pieces chosen for their entertainment value. Your visits can take place on weekdays or weekends, during the morning or afternoon.
WORK UP A SWEAT helping low-income families achieve the American dream of home ownership. Providing general construction help for a housing program serving Katy and neighboring areas, you’ll bring hope to families who are trying to make a new start. Even if you have no background in construction, you can be easily trained in ways to participate effectively in this initiative. Morning and afternoon shifts are available on Saturdays.
