STEAK ‘N SHAKE – Officials from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce join Steak ‘n Shake representatives for the groundbreaking of the restaurant chain’s newest location on the Katy Freeway near Westgreen.
Last week, the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Steak ‘n Shake restaurant.
Chamber officials were joined by Steak ‘n Shake representatives to mark the start of construction on the new location on the Katy Freeway near Westgreen Boulevard.
Steak ‘n Shake was founded in 1934 in Normal, Ill. By Gus Belt, a pioneer in the concept of premium burgers and milk shakes.
Located primarily in the Midwest and southern states, the chain currently has more than 500 outlets. Its slogan, “Famous for Steakburgers,” refers to the chain’s signature menu item, the Steakburger, so called because it is made from a mixture of T-bone, sirloin and strip steak.
Steak ‘n Shake is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Biglari Holdins of San Antonio. The company currently operates 502 restaurants in 22 states. Of those, 436 are company owned; the remaining 66 are franchised locations.
