Volunteers Needed To Help Katy Foundation Providing Children’s Sports Programs

Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.

ADMINISTRATIVE HELP is wanted by a Katy foundation that provides hope to children of all ages through its sports camp programs.  Duties can include data entry and word processing, filing, answering the telephone, and assisting with any of the many special projects spearheaded by the foundation. Weekly shifts of about two hours can be arranged for weekday mornings or afternoons.

PRIVATE PILOTS can log some flying time while helping persons with serious medical problems. The regional chapter of a national pilots’ network is recruiting volunteer pilots to use their own planes to fly ambulatory patients in outlying areas to and from medical facilities throughout greater Houston. Flights are arranged to fit the pilots’ schedules and geographical preferences. Expenses incurred in the assignment are tax deductible.

PROVIDE COUNSELING to persons dealing with unplanned pregnancies.  A Katy-based agency utilizes female and male peer counselors to help clients cope in life-affirming ways with the physical, emotional, and spiritual challenges such pregnancies can pose.  Volunteer time commitments typically involve two to three hours a week during morning, afternoon, or evening hours. Comprehensive training is provided.

SERVE AS OMBUDSMAN for a health agency monitoring the quality of care at greater Houston area nursing homes. If you have good communication skills and a deep concern for the well-being of the elderly and disabled, you’ll receive in-depth training and certification that will equip you to work with a nursing home’s staff and residents in mediating problems that arise. Time involved averages just a few hours a week.
