Lakes Of Katy Residents Return Home After Gas Line Leak Controlled

UPDATE

Residents of the Lakes of Katy subdivision on the northwest side of Katy have been allowed to return home following an early morning evacuation because of a leaking gas pipeline.

Residents from about 50 homes were evacuated when the high pressure gas line began to leak around 2:30 a.m.

They were given the all-clear to return home around 10 a.m. after the line had been de-pressurized and the leak brought under control.

Earlier in the morning, Waller County sheriff’s deputies, assisted by the Katy Fire Department, had gone door to door in the exclusive gated community informing residents to evacuate.

Pipeline officials said the leak occurred in a gas line running through a man-made lake that winds through the subdivision. The pipeline is owned by Tennessee Gas Company, a subsidiary of El Paso Pipeline.

A spokesman for El Paso said the leak was on a 24-inch gas line running through the subdivision.

Residents reported “bubbling” in the lake late Tuesday night.

No cause for leak has yet been determined.

No injuries were reported.
