Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
BRING SOME CHEER and good nutrition to homebound senior citizens by serving as a “Meals on Wheels” driver for a local United Way agency. Delivering hot lunches to these low-income shut-ins, you’ll help enable them to maintain their independence and provide them with much-needed human contact. You’ll pick up the meals at a Katy location on your choice of weekdays and deliver them to seniors in the general area.
MAKE BLANKETS for infants and small children. An all-volunteer organization based in Katy is looking for persons willing to create blankets for seriously ill or traumatized youngsters, including pediatric cancer patients. The blankets may be sewn, woven, crocheted, knitted, or quilted, and size doesn’t matter. You can do the work at home and on your own schedule, and the amount you make is wholly up to you.
PHYSICAL THERAPISTS are wanted as key members of a small, dedicated community of volunteers working to enrich the futures of special-needs children ages 5 and younger. By engaging these kids in interaction with horses (hippotherapy), the therapists help improve the neurological functioning and sensory processing of their young clients. Sessions will be held this fall on Wednesdays, between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m., in a rural area of Richmond.
PROTECT WILDLIFE at a southwest Houston shelter that offers volunteers a variety of assignments. Depending on your preferences, you can help with shelter maintenance, answer an information hotline, assist with miscellaneous office functions, or work with trained staff to help care for animals housed at the facility. Volunteers should be at least 16 years of age and willing to commit to twelve hours of service per month. The shelter is open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week.
For more information on the following volunteer opportunities, please call Volunteer Fort Bend at 281-340-1919, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
