With a planned opening of its new Katy location in just over a month, representatives from H-E-B gave city council an overview of what the store will have to offer to the community.

NEW H-E-B – The new Katy H-E-B food store, the first part of the Katy Main Street development, is slated to open in early August.
During Monday’s city council meeting, Assistant Store Director Joey Garcia told council members the store will bring a “first class shopping experience” to Katy residents.
Currently under construction as the first part of the Katy Main Street development, the 85,000 square-foot store is slated to open in early August.
“We are looking forward to being part of Katy,” Garcia said. “This store will provide everything you’ve seen in our previous stores.”
Garcia said H-E-B is committed to the community in a number of ways, including giving to charitable organizations throughout Texas.
“One thing that H-E-B is really proud of is what we do in regards to our community; what we do to reach out to our community,” Garcia said. “We donate five percent of our pre-tax earnings across the state to charitable organizations, and we will continue to do that in the state and within our community here.”

COUNCIL BRIEFING – Joey Garcia, assistant store director for the new H-E-B grocery in Katy Main Street, updates city council on the planned August opening of the store.
He went on to point out H-E-B also gives back to the community by donating to food banks, supporting education and hosting “Feast of Sharing” events.
The H-E-B Food Bank Assistance Program currently supports 21 food banks and serves more than 8,000 organizations throughout Texas and Mexico.
“We are the single largest donor to food banks in Texas,” Garcia said.
Additionally, through its “Feast of Sharing” holiday dinners, the grocery chain now provides free hot holiday meals in 30 communities throughout Texas and Mexico.
Garcia also told the council the new store would employ some 400 employees, with more than 80 percent being hired from the Katy community.
“A large majority of the people we’ll employ are from the Katy area,” he said.
The new H-E-B will include a full-service meat market, seafood market and deli, as well as an extensive produce department, cheese shop, bakery and pharmacy. It will also feature a “Cooking Connection” area with live demonstrations and cooking classes.
Other parts of the store will include a floral department, sushi bar, “healthy living” area with vitamins and bulk foods, business center with bill pay and Western Union services and gas station and car wash.
The store’s unit director will be Tim Morris and Rexhe Kasumaj will be the store director.
Established as a family-operated grocery in Kerrville in 1905, H-E-B now operates more than 300 stores across Texas.
