The Fulshear Night Readers’ Guild will meet at Fort Bend County Libraries’ Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library in Fulshear on Monday, June 28.
The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the library meeting room.
The book to be discussed in June is “Isaac’s Storm: A Man, A Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History” by Erik Larson.
Using personal accounts from survivors, social commentary and scientific data and reports from the era, Larson recreates the grave miscalculations leading up to the great storm of 1900 that devastated Galveston.
Confident in the U.S. Weather Service’s cutting-edge scientific technology, senior meteorologist Isaac Cline ignored warnings from Cuban officials alerting the Texas coast of the magnitude of the impending storm.
The gripping account leads the reader through screaming winds, rising tides and unmitigated terror as an unprepared populace struggles to survive the fury of nature and the horrifying aftermath of one of the greatest natural disasters in U.S. history.
The book club is free and open to the public.
For more information, call the branch at 281-346-1432 or the library’s public information office at 281-341-2677.
