The Katy Tea Party Patriots have issued a call for volunteers to travel to Washington, DC tomorrow to help lobby against an expected push by the Obama Administration to push a healthcare bill through Congress as early as this Thursday.
The Katy group issued the call at the request of the Fredericksburg Tea Party organization, which is coordinating the effort as a part of the national “Take the Town Halls to Washington” effort.
According to the Fredericksburg group, an anonymous donor has offered to pay 100 percent of the airfare for volunteers from “Blue Dog” Democratic House districts, and 50 percent of the travel cost for those from all other Texas districts.
Blue Dog Democrats are the traditionally more conservative members of the Democratic Party with a more conservative constituency. They are considered to those most likely to join Republicans in opposing the healthcare bill in the House of Representatives.
Some of the Texas Blue Dogs targeted by the Tea Party organizers include Reps. Henry Cuellar, Chet Edwards and Ciro Rodriguez.
Leslie Haight of the Fredericksburg Tea Party said the group already has 10 people traveling to Washington Tuesday and returning to Texas on Thursday.
“We need a strong Texas delegation in DC and lots of support back here at home,” Haight noted.
