Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for Katy-area residents who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations.
SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN respond enthusiastically to the love and attention they get from caring adults in a program called “Family Friends”. Each volunteer is assigned a child to visit once a week for a one-to-one session of recreation and conversation. These get-togethers help enrich the youngsters’ self-esteem and give their parents a little time off to attend to other matters. Training is provided.
MEDICAL PERSONNEL are wanted at a free medical clinic for low-income persons in the Katy area. Among the specialists needed are family practitioners, dentists, nurse practitioners, RNs, LVN’s, physical therapists, and physician assistants. Flexible shifts are available Tuesdays through Fridays at the headquarters of the social service agency that operates the clinic.
BE A FRIENDLY VISITOR to residents of a small, home-like assisted living facility in Katy for individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or related illnesses. Visiting for an hour or two on any day of the week, during the daytime or evening, you can interact on an individual basis with residents who will benefit a great deal from the stimulation and companionship you offer. Training will be provided.
ACCEPT DONATIONS and sort merchandise for a resale shop in Katy that benefits a nonprofit agency serving low-income persons. Your organizational skills will help bring order to what can otherwise be a chaotic collection of clothing and household items. You’ll be able to select a weekly shift between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays.
