SUNDOWN BALLOON SEND-OFF – Students release almost 1,000 biodegradable balloons in January in “The Great Pen Pal Balloon Send-Off.”

Now, more than a month later, students are urging anyone who found one of the balloons to respond to their request to become a new pen pal.

The project began after students read “The Red Book” and sharing real-life stories about what happens to a biodegradable balloon is sent off into the sky.

At 3 p.m. Jan. 29, more than 900 balloons containing students’ “letters to a pen pal” were released from the school in hopes of receiving a response from those who find the balloons.

Sundown Elementary is located at 20100 Saums Rd. in Katy. The principal is Steve Pustejovsky.
