One of last year’s most popular speakers will return for the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce February Business Builders Breakfast.
Richard Bloom, noted crime deterrent specialist, author, speaker and trainer will present a program called “On the Wings of Humor.” The presentation will feature tips to prevent becoming the victim of violent crime.
Bloom spoke at last April’s chamber breakfast, and is returning this month by popular request.
During last year’s presentation, Bloom told more than 50 chamber members that, while most people are hesitant to hurt another person even in self-defense, violent criminals have no such hesitance. He called them “moral flatliners.”
He also pointed out that FBI statistics show that an aggravated assault occurs every 36 seconds and a rape takes place very 5.9 minutes.
Bloom gave attendees personal safety tips and demonstrated several “street moves” designed to be used when attacked. This month’s program will focus on similar self defense tips and tactics.
The breakfast will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at The Club at Falcon Point.
Networking begins at 6:45 a.m. with breakfast at 7 a.m.
The cost is $15 per member or $20 for non-members. Prepayment s required and can be made on the chamber website at www.katychamber.com.
The Club at Falcon Point is located at 24503 Falcon Point Drive.
