If FM 1463 south of Katy is looking better than usual, it’s probably thanks to a group of Firethorne employees who have “adopted” a two-mile stretch of the state road.

FM 1464 “ADOPTED” – The Firethorne community recently “adopted” a two-mile stretch of FM 1463 through TxDOT’s “Adopt A Highway” program. Shown at the first clean-up effort are, top row, Lori Jurecka, Pam Roberson and Randy Carr; center, Elyse Harrell, Lexie Cawley, Kristin Baldwin, Wayne Meyer and Kelly Baldwin; front, Claire Martin, Janet Burkett, Micaela Fox, Christy Martin and Robert White.
Staffers from the 1,400-acre master-designed community recently adopted their neighboring highway as part of the Texas Department of Transportation “Adopt A Highway” program to keep highways litter-free.
“We’re responsible for helping maintain these two miles along FM 1463 and will be out there in our safety vests four times a year to support the Adopt A Highway litter prevention program,” Firethorne Director of Marketing Janet Burkett explained.
The assigned area stretches from the IH-10 feeder road to a point south beyond Firethorne.
The Firethorne volunteers recently conducted their first clean-up assignment. Those taking part included Burkett, Firethorne General Manager Wayne Meyer, Jefferson Development President Robert White and ten employees, including Firethorne Visitor Center Guides.
TxDOT recently erected the official “Adopt A Highway Firethorne Employees” sign along the stretch of road.
