The Katy Tea Party Patriots have announced that popular radio personality Sam Malone has agreed to serve as moderator for the group’s upcoming political forum.
The forum will take place at the Taylor High School Performing Arts Center on Feb. 20.
Beginning at 1 p.m., candidates for Harris County Republican Chair will field questions. Candidates confirmed as taking part include Ed Hubbard, Don Large, Paul Simpson and Jared Woodfill.
Starting at 2 p.m., candidates for the hotly-contested 14th Congressional District race will field questions.
Incumbent Ron Paul has agreed to participate, but may appear by videotape or via an appointed proxy. Challengers John Gay, Tim Graney and Gerald Wall have all said they will appear in person.
Libertarian candidate Eugene Flynn remains a “maybe.”
Another incumbent congressman, the 10th Congressional District’s Michael McCaul has been invited and is trying to work out a scheduling conflict so he can appear. If he is able to take part, McCaul will take the stage beginning at 3:30 p.m.
So far, no other candidate for McCaul’s seat has agreed to participate in the forum.
There will also be brief remarks by gubernatorial candidates Kay Bailey Hutchison, Rick Perry and Deborah Medina as they respond to questions from Common Sense Texas leaders statewide on video screens.
Event organizer Jennifer Danel Heiden said questions will be formulated from among the Tea Party Patriots’ membership and submitted to the candidates one week in advance of the forum.
She also said a large crowd is expected.
“We may have an over-packed arena. We will be requesting an RSVP and handing out wristbands for crowd control,” Heiden said.
After the forum, those in attendance will be asked to cast an early voting ballot for the candidate of their choice.
