The next meeting of the Fulshear Book Club will take place this Monday, Jan. 25, beginning at noon in the meeting room at Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Branch Library.
The book to be discussed is “Annie Freeman’s Fabulous Traveling Funeral,” written by Kris Radish.
Ovarian cancer claimed the life of Annie Freeman much too soon. Before she died however, Annie arranged for a special package to be delivered to her oldest and dearest friend, Katherine Givens.
Included in the UPS package are Annie’s favorite pair of red high-top sneakers – containing her ashes – along with her final request: that Katherine and four other of the most important women in Annie’s life serve as pallbearers escorting her ashes to various special places in Annie’s life.
A small miracle awaits the entourage at each of their designated stops on their cross-country trek. The group encounters people who either knew or were touched in some way by Annie and her remarkable spirit, leading the women to re-evaluate their own lives and the impact they have on the world around them.
The funeral procession turns into a celebration of life and a wake-up call for the women, who learn that it’s never too late to truly live life.
Anyone interested in joining this literary-review club is invited to attend and bring a lunch, if desired.
