Katy Area Under Strong Wind Advisory Through 6 p.m. Today

The Katy area is under a wind advisory through 6 p.m. this evening as a potent storm front passes through.

The passage of the front will cause strong west to northwest winds across the region, the National Weather Service said.

“Winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts near 35 mph, will be possible through late afternoon,” the weather service statement said.

The advisory went on to say the strongest winds will start around the Caldwell and Bryan region and expand east and southeast as cold air wrapping around a low pressure system sweeps into the area.

The weather service went on to say that drivers of vans, campers, trailers and other high-profile vehicles should be alert to the danger of the strong winds and be especially alert when driving along north to south oriented roads.

Winds will begin to decrease this evening ahead of an overnight low near freezing.

Christmas is expected to be mostly sunny except for a few afternoon clouds, with north winds 5 – 10 mph. The high is forecast to reach 53.
