Fulshear Delays Infrastructure Plans Until County Finalizes FM 1093 Expansion Project

With the anticipated expansion of FM 1093 into a four-lane boulevard with service roads in the near future, the City of Fulshear will wait until early next year to begin developing plans for extending water and sewer lines along the rapidly-growing thoroughfare.

City Engineer David Leyendecker made the recommendation to put plans on temporary hold during his report to the Fulshear City Council during this week’s meeting.

Leyendecker said making plans on where to locate the new infrastructure before the county finalizes the FM 1093 expansion project could result in the city being forced to relocate newly-installed water and sewer lines. Those relocation costs would have to be borne by Fulshear taxpayers, he said.

Leyendecker said the county has a much as $30 million in stimulus money to expand FM 1093 into Fulshear.

“That puts us in something of a dilemma,” Leyendecker said. “We’re not sure where we can go with our new sewer line until the county’s plans are in place.”

He recommended the city delay making any decisions until January.

“I would recommend at least to the end of January before we do anything,” Leyendecker said. “I think that 30 days would be wise to wait.”

Fulshear plans on spending $600,000 – $800,000 to extend the lines in order to accommodate rapid growth along the city’s primary east-west corridor. In addition, Leyendecker said, he is also working on preliminary plans to expand the city’s sewer treatment plant.

In other action, city council authorized Mayor Jamie Roberts to spend up to $57,418 to repair and upgrade Katy-Fulshear Road.
