The Brookshire City Council will take up an abbreviated agenda when it holds its last regular meeting of 2009 tonight at city hall.

The council will conduct a public hearing prior to acting on a proposed ordinance to enact joint airport zoning regulations for property located in the vicinity of the Houston Executive Airport.

Earlier in the week, city councils in both Katy and Fulshear adopted similar ordinances, creating a multi-jurisdictional airport safety zoning board to protect air space around the airport.

The airport is located in Waller County between Brookshire and Katy.

The board will have the authority to adopt regulations and establish zones and boundaries to ensure the safety of aircraft operating out of the airport.

The zoning board will primarily regulate the height of structures and natural growth.

In addition to Brookshire, Katy and Fulshear, Waller and Fort Bend counties have been asked to approve similar ordinances.

Also on Brookshire’s agenda is a discussion and possible action on a proposal from Republic Waste Services for automated garbage collection. A representative from Republic, the city’s solid waste contractor, initially broached the idea of converting to automated garbage collection for Brookshire during last month’s council meeting.

Additionally, council members are scheduled to discuss EMS and inspection services for the City of Brookshire.

The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the city council chambers.
