FUNERAL SERVICES ANNOUNCED – Funeral services for 16-year-old Morton Ranch High cheerleader Taylor Contreras will be held this Friday at Kingsland Baptist Church. Contreras died in a fiery crash early Sunday morning when the pickup truck she was riding in ran off the road and struck a tree.
Funeral arrangements have been announced for the Morton Ranch High School cheerleader who was among three Katy-area teens who died in a fiery car crash early Sunday morning.
Services for Taylor Contreras will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Kingsland Baptist Church, 20555 Kingsland in Katy.
Contreras, 16, died along with recent Cinco Ranch High graduates Timothy Laufenberg, 18, and Jonathan Fernandez, 19, when the pickup truck they were riding in ran off Katy-Hockley Road, hit a tree and burst into flames.
Police said poor weather and excessive speed are the likely causes of the crash.
The accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. Sunday morning in the 2900 block of Katy-Hockley Road near Morton Road. At the time of the accident, roads were slick and dense fog covered much of the area.
Investigators said the truck was exceeding the posted 30 mph speed limit.
All three occupants were believed to have been killed instantly.
The teens were so badly burned that medical examiners had to rely on dental records to confirm their identities.
