Katy City Council, KISD School Board Both Meet Today

The Katy City Council and the Katy ISD School Board of Trustees will both meet in regular session today beginning at 6:30 p.m.

 

School trustees will hold a public hearing for reporting progress in meeting “highly qualified teacher” requirements under the federal No Child Left Behind mandate. Following a presentation by district staff, the board will receive public input.

 

The school board is also expected to take action on a resolution for the election of candidates to the boards of directors for the Harris County Appraisal District, the Fort Bend County Appraisal District and the Waller County Appraisal District. 

 

Additionally, trustees are slated to hold a discussion on enrollment projections and facility planning.

 

The board will also recognize the district’s National Achievement Scholarship semifinalists, National Hispanic Scholars and National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.

 

City Council will take up a lengthy agenda, including authorizing the city attorney to draft an ordinance for Katy to receive “Tree City USA” designation and a letter of agreement with Waller County to maintain Bartlett Road and 10th Street within the Katy city limits.

 

Also on the agenda will be:

-         Resolutions supporting creation of the Waller County Sub-Regional Planning Commission, Waller County’s application for flood protection planning grant assistance and the extension of Sealy-based BAE Corporation’s military contract.

-         A recommendation from the Planning and Zoning Commission to make changes in the city code related to plat requirements.

-         Awarding a bid to ReyTech Construction Resources to reconstruct Avenue D in the amount of $2,354,140.

-         Consideration of renewing an agreement with the state to continuing leasing 960 square feet of the VFW building to the DPS driver’s license office through 2010 for $856.22 per month.

-         Consideration of Convention and Tourism Grant applications for a decking and handrail system at the Depot Visitor Center in the amount of $48,390 and a promotional video in the amount of $4,780.

-         Authorizing the use of reserve funds to purchase a filing system for the new municipal courts building in the amount of $16,911.77 and a new Crimson Fire Custom Star pumper from Metro Fire Apparatus Specialists in the amount of $499,904.

 

The council will also meet in closed-door executive session to discuss the “purchase, exchange, lease or value of real property.”
