Special Pals Seeking Donations Of Food And Perishables

Katy’s Special Pals pet shelter and adoption center is in need of donations of food and other perishables to help its staff care for homeless animals.

 

Typically, donations drop off during the holiday season and shelter staff is asking the public to assist in making certain supplies do not run low.

 

Items needed include:

-         Pedigree (small bites) dry and wet dog food

-         Pedigree Puppy dry and wet food

-         Purina dry and wet dog food

-         Friskies dry and wet cat food (not shredded or chunks)

-         Purina dry and wet cat food (not shredded or chunks)

-         Kitchen trash bags (13 gallon size)

-         Liquid bleach

-         Clay cat letter (non-scoopable)

-         Angled kitchen brooms

 

The shelter is also in need of financial assistance for medical expenses 

 

Donations can be dropped off at Special Pals, 3830 Greenhouse Rd., 1 – 3 p.m. on Nov. 7, Nov. 14, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12.

 

Special Pals is a private, nonprofit limited-intake shelter. Its mission is to provide temporary shelter, healthcare, an alternative to euthanasia, adoptive homes and education to the community about the responsibilities of pet ownership and the importance of spaying and neutering

 

Special Pals has been operating in the Houston area for more 20 years. Its shelter facility sits on 3 ½ wooded acres and provides shelter to approximately 100 dogs and cats.

 

The staff maintains the facilities and cares for the animals seven days a week. Volunteers work daily either “hands on” with the animals or away from the shelter at fund-raising events or related projects
