The next meeting of the Fulshear Book Club will take place on Monday, Nov. 16, beginning at noon in the meeting room at Bob Lutts Fulshear/Simonton Library in Fulshear.
The book to be discussed is Mary Ann Shaffer’s debut novel, “The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.”
The year is 1946, and author Juliet Ashton informs her publisher that she is tired of writing about the aftermath of World War II and would like to move on to fresh topics. An unusual letter from a Guernsey farmer recalling the little-known history of German occupation of the island fascinates Juliet, however, and her interest is piqued with each additional letter she receives from the Guernsey residents recounting their experiences.
Through this series of letters, Juliet realizes the extraordinary power of the human spirit to survive and overcome adversity during extremely difficult times.
Anyone interested in joining the literary review club is invited to attend and bring a lunch along, if desired.
