Volunteer Fort Bend is looking for people who are interested in helping local civic and nonprofit organizations. Here are some current needs:
A builders dream
Help a new resale store in Stafford specializing in household and construction materials open its doors and serve as a funding source for a local housing program that helps families achieve the American dream of home ownership. If you are knowledgeable about retail sales, construction materials or testing appliances, your skills can be put to good use in helping make the store a thriving success. The store is open for business Thursdays through Saturdays.
Back-to-School Health Fairs
Face painting for children, coordinating outdoor games and distributing bottled water, door prizes, and snacks are an invitation to fun loving volunteers to participate in the Fort Bend Family Health Center’s Back-to- School Health Fair scheduled for August 8 in Stafford and August 15 in Richmond. Volunteer groups and youth ages 15+ are invited to arrive at 8:30 a.m. to conduct a morning of fun activities, concluding with a free lunch for all volunteers.
Green thumbs wanted
Team up with other volunteers in tending a Sugar Land or Richmond community garden that produces a variety of fruits and vegetables to help feed the hungry in the area. Rain or shine, adults and youngsters alike can help on Tuesday, Thursday, or Saturday mornings by assisting with digging, planting, weeding, and watering the garden. Local food pantries reap the bounty and distribute it to families in need.
Additional opportunities:
- Be a “Meals on Wheels” driver on your choice of weekdays for elderly shut-ins in the Fort Bend area.
- Help provide food, tutoring, and recreational activities for Pre-K and elementary school children in a Stafford child-care program.
