Red Cross Opens Two Shelters For Bear Creek Evacuees

BREAKING NEWS

The Red Cross has announced the opening of two shelters for persons displaced by flooding in the Bear Creek area.

The shelters are at:

-         Bear Creek United Methodist Church, 16000 Rippling Water

-         Copperfield Church, 8350 Highway 6 North

Several dozen homes in the Bear Creek area have been flooded as a result of overnight rains.

Earlier this morning, the Cy-Fair Fire Department asked Bear Creek area residents to evacuate if safely possible as firefighters worked to rescue those caught by rising water.

Those Bear Creek residents who were unable to evacuate were asked to shelter in place.

The evacuation announcement came as the area remains under a flash flood watch until 1 p.m.

Up to 12 inches of rain have been recorded in the Bear Creek area since 6 p.m. yesterday. Both Cypress Creek and Little Cypress Creek have overflowed their banks.
